Tell me your experience or the vacation you’ve planned 🙂

Well, I only started diving a little over a year ago, and I’ve only really been to 2 different locations.. but I loved them both!

I hear the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is AWESOME! So I really want to go there..
but I have been to Cozumel, Mexico. It was a really nice place to dive, and we saw some really cool things.
ALTHOUGH, this winter we went to Grand Cayman Island. We went through some little underwater caves, which was really neat. Although the island is very expensive.

I have this book called Sharkwater (by Rob Stewart.. nto sure if you’ve heard of it.) But in it he talks about the Galapagos Islands. They sound like they are VERY hard to get to, but apparently on the islands there are things like the marine iguana, which can’t be seen anywhere else.
After this, he talks about going 160 miles from there to Darwin and Wolf Islands, which are 2 undersea volcanoes. Apparently thihs is where hammerhead sharks congregate in schools… and there are tons of them! So that may be a neat place, but I’m pretty sure htat is also very hard to get to.

If you want to keep it simple, I’d say somewhere like Australia, although I have never been. Apparently in Egypt there are some really neat places to dive too.

Good luck! :]
I hope this helped a little!

I want to learn how to scuba dive this summer, I’m studying Marine Biology and I want to go somewhere that I can scuba dive… If anyone knows of a good place I can get certified to scuba dive in open water? Please tell me the name, cost, requirements etc….

It doesn’t matter where, I’m willing to travel… Thanks.

If you’re going to be a marine biologist, money or travel is no issue, then learn to dive in an area that has a barrier reef system. You”ll find the largest variety of aquatic life on one.
Either Australia, with the world’s largest one or off Belize/Honduras for the world’s second largest one.
Cozumel and the Mayan Riviera is also a decent area to dive for sea life and coral, since it’s the northern extension of the reef off Belize/Honduras.
The Galapagos Islands, because of their unique geographical position that causes cold nutrient rich water to come up , also offer a lot of diverse life while not a barrier reef. It’s one big buffet table for critters from all over.

I see a lot of people promoting Hawaii. Yes, nice place to dive, but not nearly as nice as a living reef. A lot of the reef system there has been destroyed. There was only one, what I’d call a living reef easily accessible , easy to dive and that was Hanahuama Bay. That was back in 1992, who knows what it’s like now.

Going Scuba diving today in British Columbia, It’s been about 10 years since I’ve done a cold water dive, when I used to dive here I used a dry Suit… Since I’m renting gear and going with a newer diver we are just going to use wet suits. I am 195lb male how much weight would be a best guess I was thinking 35lbs but I’m unsure…

Thanks for input!

In B.C. you’re likely diving a 7mm double. 35 pounds is a bit much. I’d start at 24 and work your way up in increments of two pounds I bet you’ll need about 28 until you float at eyeball level with the air out of your BC but you’re better to go light than heavy since this is a fist trip out in awhile for you.
Your body weight means nothing. Your body type does. No fat and all muscle and bone requires less lead. Big chubby fella and you actually need a little more lead since generally your buoyancy is more for the same body mass.

36 pounds plus 3 pounds in ankle weights are what I use for my dry suit, not wet suit so you see why you’d be over weighted.

Im a REALLY big fan of scuba diving, i started about 6 months ago and i already have :
Fins
goggles
weights (lol but no BC)
snorkel
flashlight (a pretty good one)
and a g250v Scubapro reg with an SPG as well

Pretty much all im missing is a BC, and ofcourse the tank of air. I hope to get my advanced open water diving soon, and im already nitrox certified. Im 17 years old, and scubadiving will be a biggg part of my future. I dive with one of my instructors actually, we became friends, and the first out-of-class dive we went on he told me i looked like i had been on atleast 300 dives (im sure he was being nice, but other instructors always comment on it as well). Anyways, i dont want to always have to dive with him, and i was wondering where i can find others to go with. Thanks for feedback

Others have listed good sources.

Try meetup.com as well. You can find local groups into scuba.

What equipment do you need for night diving?

I have a project for a resort management class in school and I’ve decided that I want to bring night diving into a resort that I’ve made up. But, I don’t scuba dive so I don’t know what equipment is needed. Specific names of the equipment would be very helpful because I need to find the cost for them. It would be great if you could help me out! Thanks!

I am going to guess that your resort is located on the water and in a somewhat tropical environment. There are vast possibilities for this kind of location.

The basics you will have to have are(per person) Mask, snorkel, fins, wet suits (allow for choice of short or full body), Tank, buoyancy compensator (BC), Dive regulator with reserve regulator, computer/ gauges, gloves, weight belt, knife, dive booties, Main light, back up light, glow sticks.

You will need at least 2 master divers to do this. Offer it from the shore line, instead of from a boat. I would also go all out and for safety use a Electronic Rescue and Locating System http://www.diverrescue.com/ you loose one person and the resort could fold.

Think about underwater man made and placed items to dive on. A sunken ship, man made reef, art, ect. Have seasonal night dives. Example Halloween place spooky Items around underwater, Christmas would be Christmas themes. There is ans are low power (12 volt dc) that will work underwater. A scavenger hunt.

There are so many possibilities, hove fun and good luck. I love this kind of projects in class.
