Scuba diving job?

I’m looking to move away from home when I finish high school in june. I’m 17, turning 18 in december. Would it be possible to travel somewhere nice, and get a masters in diving? I seen one job available in mexico, paying $50usd per day. Is that enough to get by there? I live in Canada so I’m used to rent being around $700 etc. I’d love to just drift and enjoy a couple years, before deciding to go to college or something. I have no idea what I want to do now… Any ideas?

You need to go to a dive shop to get your training and certifications. Most resorts would require that you be an instructor.

As in Skydiving from a plane with full scuba dive gear on into the ocean.

Its almost impossible with all the gear you have to take with you (your skydiving g-suit, parachute and scuba gear(just that alone weighs alot)) and gear… Even if it was possible, it is impractical…

SCUBA fin questions?

OK, so I am going to get SCUBA certified but I need fins! I have snorkeling fins, but obviously those won’t work. I would like full foot fins, I don’t want to have to buy the boots, too, and I will probably use them more for snorkeling than diving…. my question is how can you tell the difference between SCUBA and snorkeling full foot fins? also does anyone know any good places to buy them online? Thanks
also, if anyone could recommend a exact fin I should use I would greatly appriciate it!
well i would just buy them at the store i will be taking my class at, but they are soo expensive and i’ve looked up a few online that are more in the $30-50 range instead of $80-130 range

Go to your dive shop where your taking your certification class. Ask them about the different types, and then TRY those types out during your OW certification class.

This will tell you what YOU like, and not what a bunch of strangers think you should get.

The more comfortable you are in your fins, the longer you’ll be diving! 🙂

I’m learning scuba diving at a PADI facility, so I was wondering if I could train my younger brother the same way and then rent additional equipment so we can both go scuba diving, are there any legal implications of taking an unlicensed person alongside myself when going scuba diving?

No. Unless your becoming an instructor. Instructors are the only ones allowed to take uncertified divers out.

Legally, I’m sure there’s an issue. Even if your family wouldn’t sue you for having an accident with your brother, there could be criminal ramifications for giving an uncertified diver gear, and then having an accident or death resulting happen. It’s usually called criminal negligence.

I’m based in London and have just got my PADI Openwater Diver Cert. I’m keen for me and a buddy to go on a diving break – but don’t know the best way to go about it. Are there any London clubs that organise such trips (either in or outside the UK) or any holiday companies that specialise in diving jaunts? Or is it better to get a standard hoilday to a scuba resort (i.e. Sharm El Sheikh) and organise the dive trip when I’m there?

You can get some really good bargains in Egypt on the Red Sea coast at this time of year. There are several diving holiday organisations which arrange trips. I have used Tony Backhurst Scuba (web site at www.scuba.co.uk) many times. They cater for both experienced & inexperienced divers. You could even go for your Advanced Open Water cert whilst you are there as this consists mainly of experience dives with only a tiny bit of additional bookwork- practical stuff rather than theory. Personally, I would arrange my diving before going to be sure you can get booked in. You can also chat to them here about the sort of diving you want to do etc etc before you go. There are many many other places you can go around the world but Egypt is pretty jacked up for divers with some very good prices too. The groups going there are mainly divers so the airlines etc are very familiar with diving equipment luggage etc. If you want to go as part of a bigger group then best to contact your local dive centres- or the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) has clubs just about everywhere-their web site is www.bsac.com & you will be able to get details of all the clubs in your area.
