Fit, form, function, and comfort.
Suggest you look for equipment that lets you grow a bit into them.
Use your local dealers for fit and sizing but you don’t have to buy from them.
Below are some web links that will provide an assortment of equipment to choose from:

What scuba fins should I get?

I need to replace my old fins and am looking for something mid-range in price. I’d rather not break the bank on a pair of fins, but want them to last me a long time. The type of diving I normally do is wrecks and reef diving, not usually a lot of current to fight but I’d like to be prepared for anything.

I’d appreciate any name brands I should go with or even a model type that you would recommend!

Like any piece of equipment, ask 10 people what the "best" fin is and you’ll get 11 different answers. I usually go to Scuba Diving magazine’s ScubaLab reports when looking for gear recommendations because they at least seem to have a documented testing criteria that they apply when reviewing equipment. You can find fin reviews online at

http://www.scubadiving.com/gear/fins

They don’t provide reviews of every fin available but they will give you a range of different fins and (at least on older reviews, like this one from 2007 http://www.scubadiving.com/gear/accessories/18-new-fins ) relative strength & weaknesses.

Good luck with your search.

Scuba diving equipment on an airplane?

I am going to St. Maarten this summer and I will be scuba diving. I would like to take my own equipment instead of renting equipment. I know that you are not allowed to bring the cylinders on the airplane so I will be renting one..But is the rest of the equipment allowed to go onto the plane? What should I do? Do you make it a "cary on" or what? Please help!

You should feel free to take everything your need except cylinders and weights. If you can fit all your gear & clothes into a carry-on bag, great, otherwise pack it in checked luggage. If you feel there is equipment that you want to make sure you have when you arrive or want to be sure is not damaged during the trip, pack that in your carry-on and the rest in checked luggage. Also remember that the TSA will confiscate items such as dive knives from your carry-on bag, but it will be ok in checked luggage. Remove the batteries from dive lights and pack them separately.

Examples of things that you might want to carry on would be your regulator, dive computers, prescription masks, and of course your C-card. Anything else you could probably make do with rental for a day or two if your checked luggage gets misplaced.

Enjoy your trip.

Can anyone tell me the longest established scuba diving site in the Philippines??

And tell mo more about diving in the Philippines .

Apo reef?

or Siargao waters?

or shallow waters near Mactan, Cebu?

I would recommend CEBU, Philippines – is warm during day and a little bit cold at night, so you can still enjoy swimming in many beaches here!

Cebu has many resorts such as shangrila, hilton, imperial palace, plantation bay, crimson.

while the malls are ayala, sm, robinson and gaisano.

You can still enjoy the cheapest cost of living in Cebu.

Still you can have mountain climbing to have a cooler weather!

or you can do island hopping to enjoy the breeze of the sea or diving, and a lot more to enjoy its nearby islands like surfing in SIARGAO!

we have lots of first class and renowned resorts like shangrila, hilton, imperial palace, plantation bay, etc.!!!

the island is alive at night with party places in every corner especially during holidays!

there are plenty of old churches here, museums, cinemas and malls!

the locals are friendly, warm, hospitable and smiling people. many understand english here.
