Where is the most beautiful place in the world to go scuba diving and why?

Well, I only started diving a little over a year ago, and I’ve only really been to 2 different locations.. but I loved them both!
I hear the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is AWESOME! So I really want to go there..
but I have been to Cozumel, Mexico. It was a really nice place to dive, and we saw some really cool things.
ALTHOUGH, this winter we went to Grand Cayman Island. We went through some little underwater caves, which was really neat. Although the island is very expensive.
I have this book called Sharkwater (by Rob Stewart.. nto sure if you’ve heard of it.) But in it he talks about the Galapagos Islands. They sound like they are VERY hard to get to, but apparently on the islands there are things like the marine iguana, which can’t be seen anywhere else.
After this, he talks about going 160 miles from there to Darwin and Wolf Islands, which are 2 undersea volcanoes. Apparently thihs is where hammerhead sharks congregate in schools… and there are tons of them! So that may be a neat place, but I’m pretty sure htat is also very hard to get to.
If you want to keep it simple, I’d say somewhere like Australia, although I have never been. Apparently in Egypt there are some really neat places to dive too.

Bonaire. It’s been a marine wildlife refuge, and the reefs are excellent. 🙂 Ton’s of shore diving mean no added boat trip expenses, but it is available if you would like.
And drive through fill shops are always great! 🙂

The Cayman Islands- The water temperature is in the mis 80’s all year- the perfect temp. The visibility is about 200 feet and you can see thousands of fish on one dive.

San Juan Islands and Puget Sound gets my vote. I’ve never been to the Great Barrier Reef but Jacque Cousteau rated the San Juan Islands second in life and beauty to the GBR. Granted, it’s cold and the currents can be strong, and the vis can be limited at times but the life is amazing. A dry suit will keep you warm, a flashlight will reveal the amazing colors, and on a bright sunny day, you can imagine that you’re in the tropics except for all the gear that you’re wearing.
