Navy Dive School – Scuba Class 06010
My Naval SCUBA Dive class (06010)
A lot of people ask on how to become a diver, and though I must reiterate that this only a Navy SCUBA class, the advice is the same. Practice and stay in the game. The game is mental, so if you tell yourself you can do it, and really believe it, you can.
To clear any misconception that there may have been, and to prevent anyone from getting hurt, please do not practice negatives in water alone. Holding your breath in water is dangerous, and should not be taken lightly. If you are on compressed air and try this, there could be serious problems. If you are going to practice negatives, please do so in a safe, controlled environment.
For those of you who think this is not a dive class, regardless of length (This class actually took 6 weeks) or actual type of dive (SCUBA), you can just move along. There are is no need to leave nasty comments or tell me how much you disagree. Those comments will not be approved. If you would like to say something useful or ask a question, feel free.
In addition, the soundtrack on here is not the original. Youtube disabled my sound due to copyright laws, so I picked a song that fit the movement the best. It’s not my favorite song, but it works.

@chittyshevy …
@chittyshevy Usually you only do that if you are coming up. In this case we were trying to hold our breath for as long as possible because we had to get “hit” and then correct ourselves. We did have a safety diver there in case we needed it, as was the case for me at about 2:08 (which was 1) needed because I was hit on an inhale and inhaled some water and 2) this section was sped up for the vid).
You would need to exhale if you were coming up to keep your lungs from expanding too much.

Awesome vid. I attended dive school at Pearl Harbor back in July 1990. I was with A Co 3rd Recon Bn. We were the first all Marine class and believe me the instructors were extra hard on us. Every PT evolution they would run our dicks in the dirt. I gained a lot of respect for them during this journey, but let me tell you….prior to attending the school, you had to pass pre-scuba, that my unit put on and it was 20 times harder than the actual school itself. Semper Fi to all who served!
@amoxaphobic Thanks

@Rangerleadtheway44 …
@Rangerleadtheway44 I’m really not sure. Most of the time, the divers were used for search and rescue, ship repair or other trivial issues. It’s possible that they would be used for something that inadvertently saw combat, but I don’t think they would be sent in strictly for combat. That’s more of a seal thing.
The best way to find out information on that would be to talk to a diver trainer or go to a dive locker and ask them. The best people to ask would be those in charge. (NO RECRUITERS)
@amoxaphobic What …
@amoxaphobic What kind of missions would they do if they were to be called for combat? And were can I find more information about them but Navy.com doesn’t give me much info
@Rangerleadtheway44 …
@Rangerleadtheway44 I am sure some do. I think it depends on where you are stationed and what squad or group you’re with. I didn’t.
Also, the rate is for diver is now DV (they have their own rate). When I went through this school, it was only for SCUBA and it was a collateral duty.

@Taz00ifyable I’m not quite sure I agree with this. But, whatever you decide to go for, you should give it your all. Dive school is all a mind game – if you think you can do it, you can. Never quit… never say you wanna quit… never even think quit.

@jess1up I have no …
@jess1up I have no idea how often welders go under. And the ones that go under the most are the ones with the most work. It’s really just the luck of the draw.
@amoxaphobic Sounds …
@amoxaphobic Sounds good. How often do the welders go under? Or which ones go under the most just based off their jobs?
@jess1up PMS – …
@jess1up PMS – Preventative Maintenance System – When someone says they are doing a PM, they are doing the maintenance on an item. A diver is in the water depending on station, duties and jobs that need to be done. I was in the water only 3 or 4 times in a year. Some are in the water every day. However, if I could do it all over again, I would… in a heartbeat. Being a diver (regardless of type) is belonging to a family. You have to do it to understand it. And nothing compares.
@amoxaphobic Just …
@amoxaphobic Just two more questions. What’s PMS stand for? Also, how often does a Navy Diver actually get to dive and work under water? If you know any Divers it would be cool if you asked them if all the work was worth it.
@amoxaphobic …
@amoxaphobic Alright thanks man that sounds like a good idea. I’d rather get info from someone that’s in it instead of my recruiter. Peace.
@jess1up The …
@jess1up The negatives are probably the same for both jobs with the exception of one. Mainly, the PMS, the qual cards, the constant maintenance… think of it as a roller coaster – you stand in line for hours for a 30 second ride. But the ride is exhilarating so you stand in line to do it all over again.
The exception is as a pilot, you are the officer in charge. If it were up to me, I would try to go pilot with a diver qualification. =)
