The wreck of the Defiance has been at rest at 185 feet on the bottom of Lake Huron since October 20th 1854. It collided with the John J. Audubon. It was reported that the Defiance struck the Audubon midships, but details to this day are still mysterious. The Defiance was one of the wrecks that the Ocean Futures Society expedition team dove durning filming the PBS Ocean Adventures TV series.

I finally got around to compiling all the various video clips I had recorded during the summers of 2006 and 2007 at Lake Rawlings. The music (Fishtro) is from an artist that goes by Purple Motion from Finland, and is from a PC demo/invite from around 1992 era, much thanks to him for allowing me to use the tune (visit purplemotion.net for more info, and check demoscene on wikipedia if you are curious.) Dive buddies Patrick and Joe make appearances in the video. Confession – I almost didn’t have enough footage to cover the whole song. I plan to cut a shorter version for HamptonRoads.TV. The video was taken with a Canon ELPH SD-550, not a camcorder. Lake Rawlings is a granite quarry, and has good visibility and is used by many dive shops for training.

This was my first dive at Crusty’s Quarry in Slippery Rock Pennsylvania. The lake is awesome and the staff was very friendly as well! It was neat swimming through all the underwater attractions. Someday i’d like to purchase an underwater detector and underwater camera housing for scuba diving!
Dive Time: 56 minutes
Maximum Depth: 23 feet
Water Temperature: 68 Degrees Fahrenheit
